TT50 Project Recap and Turbo System Pre-Order Information
When we started this project less than one year ago, we had some very specific goals for the performance of this Turbo System. We wanted to design a system that would scale from a stock vehicle to a highly modified vehicle with very little changes. The results on the stock engine were very promising (10.23@139) and we will continue to develop the stock engine program on the next few cars we do. After installing the L&M Longblock, we set the new goals of a low 9 second/150MPH 1/4 pass and 200+ in the Texas Mile.
After getting the new engine installed on March 1st, we headed to the NMRA Spring Nationals in Bradenton Florida to take a shot at our first goal. Keep in mind that the Twin Turbo 5.0 Prototype car was built to be an all around performer and not a drag specific car, and that time gets even more impressive.
Then it was time to head to the Texas Mile where our next goal was 200+ MPH. We also wanted to add another level of difficulty by not doing any aerodynamic modifications or any type of boost control. Most cars that are able to achieve 200+ use tape and other aerodynamic tricks to help get to those speeds. After some licensing passes we were floored when the TT5.0 went 206.2 MPH [YouTube] on our very first attempt at 200 MPH.
Now that we have achieved our initial performance goals in the same month we fired the car up, we have moved onto the Alpha stage of our program. During the Alpha stage, we will build 3 more TT5.0s. A manual transmission 5.0, a Boss 302 and a stock automatic 5.0. These cars will be used to finalize the production kit and to do more testing. It’s very important for us that the kit is as close to 100% perfect before we start shipping, and that is why we are testing so extensively for performance. We are also building multiple cars to test reliability, fit and finish .
Once the Alpha Program is done, we will go into production. After the production parts are done, we will enter the Beta phase of the project. We will do another 3 cars with the full production kit to once again test fitment, finish, reliability and performance. Once these cars prove out, we will start shipping kits. We expect this to happen before the end of 2012. We are now accepting $1,000 deposits to hold your place in line.
